Eggesford Walks and Places of Interest
Heywood Walk
2.5 hours - Red waymarked posts
First planted in 1920 it is perhaps the finest wood in Eggesford, attractive not only for the magnificent trees but also for the view of the surrounding hills and valleys. This walk takes you to the remains of the Norman castle and through an impressive conifer grove of unusual specimen trees and thence back to the station.
Hilltown Wood Walk
2 hours - Red waymarked posts, Blue waymarked posts
This is a wood of variety with a car park, picnic site and an information point with toilets. There are two waymarked woodland walks starting from the car park and a longer circular walk which crosses the railway line by a footbridge and takes in All Saints Church at Eggesford Garden Centre. This walk can also be started from Eggesford Garden Centre or the railway station.
Eggesford Country Centre
The Country Centre is based in Eggesford Gardens and gives the visitor information on the history of Eggesford and places to visit in the area. Eggesford Gardens also has a lisenced restaurant. An Art and Craft Gallery is also on the site.
Cycling in Eggesford
Cycling in this area is for family groups. Waymarked trails have been provided along bridleways and woodland tracks but some road work may be necessary so please take care.
