Sandplace
to Wringworthy
circular
ramble - approximately 5 miles (8km)
An interesting combination of road, farm and woodland tracks. Easy to medium. Stop to admire the idyllic church at Morval located on the charming Elizabethan homestead which mainly dates back to the 15th century.
Sandplace
to Morval
From Sandplace station go right, passing a row of cottages on the left. At
the last cottage head left and up the narrow lane and left at the fork and
up a track rising fairly steeply. The lane meets a minor road. Go right here
and continue to Tregarland and go right at the road junction to descend to
the main road at Leyland. Cross the road and go left, following the sign for
Morval Church, and at the next junction turn right and continue past the church.
To
No Man’s Land and Wringworthy Farm
Walk straight on where you will pass over a stream, bear left at the fork
and up the woodland track. Where the track forks, continue ahead (do not go
left). Go left when you meet the farm track and right when you emerge onto
the minor road. Go right, then left into No Mans Land, and left again in the
direction of the golf course. Continue up this road for some distance, and
opposite the golf course entrance turn left, but then bear right along Bolventor
Lane. The track winds its way up to meet the main road. Cross the road, go
right then left down the minor road by Wringworthy Farm.
….and
back to Sandplace station
Follow this road further to cross a stream and as the road curves to climb,
turn left down the track. Beware, this track can turn into a stream following
heavy rain. On the approach to Plashford Farm take the left hand lane through
the woodland to emerge onto a minor road. Go left down this road with the
rail line on your right. Alternately, follow the public footpath signpost
– left again, and continue until it meets a minor road. Go right and
then left and continue straight on to Sandplace station. After a short distance
you will emerge onto the main road, continue straight ahead and Sandplace
station is on your right hand side.
To
Talland Bay and back to Looe
Cross over the stile and follow the waymarked signposts through the caravan
site, and 2 fields, keeping the hedge to your right and down into Talland.
Follow the main road to the right, through Talland leading down to the bay.
The Smugglers Restaurant and Talland Beach Café provides welcome refreshments
(not open all year round). At the car park head left up the coastal path.
Follow this well-worn route all the way back to West Looe. Cross the main
road bridge over the river to East Looe, turning left once over the bridge,
returning to Looe station.
