Trail
1
Liskeard
to Coombe
Approximately
3 miles (5km)
An easy walk of diverse terrain and historic interest. Look out for the old lime kilns at Moorswater.
From Liskeard Railway Station turn right onto Station Road, passing the Old Stag Inn on the left. Continue along this road into the town centre. At the top of The Parade (major junction) turn left into West Street.
Follow this road for less than half a mile, passing a car park on your left, until you come across a dark tree-covered lane on your right which is sign posted as a public footpath. Follow this lane straight ahead for a short distance (approximately 40 yards).
Over
farmland -
At the curve of this lane there is a stile that you cross. Continue with the
hedge on your left until you cross a second stile (way marked), and walk down
the hill with the hedge to your right. Cross a third stile and bear left while
descending down towards the stream at the bottom of the field.
Follow the stream down to a little bridge (beware it may be very muddy here). Cross the bridge and the stile ahead and ascend the hill, following the fence on your left and passing Old Park, a Georgian building. The path exits onto a minor road where you turn left.
This narrow road passes Ladye Park on the right, said to be a place of pilgrimage in medieval times and the site of a former chapel. Continue along to the junction, turn right and continue under the underpass.
Follow the main road curving left and over the rail crossing. Then follow the road through Moorswater passing the old lime kilns, remnants of a time when the Liskeard to Looe canal served this early industrial zone.
