Causeland
to Looe
by
way of Pelynt
approximately 9.5 miles (14.3km)
This walk is strenuous and steep in some parts and you may wish to use walking poles. The route encompasses, farm tracks, woodland and a short stretch of road walking. Visit the standing stones at Duloe believed to date back to the Bronze Age.
Causeland
to Duloe
Exit Causeland station and go left towards Badham Farm. At Badham Farm turn
right, but take the left fork up the narrow road. After quite a distance look
out for a stile on your left which gives you access to a shortcut across fields
into Duloe. Walk diagonally across the field to the far right hand corner,
with a row of houses to your right. Turn left once on the main road. Or, alternatively,
stay on the minor road and go left at the junction. Duloe has a small post
office, shop and pub that you may like to visit.
Duloe
to Pelynt
Continue through the village of Duloe and past the church, then go right at
the junction, and continue down the lane. At the bottom of the lane go left,
then right over the stile and left once over the foot bridge. Follow the footpath
through the woodland for a short distance until you come to a stile. Cross
over the stile and turn right up the steep lane which will lead you to the
few houses at Muchlarnick. At the minor road turn right and stay on it all
the way to Pelynt. Refreshments are available from village shops. Continue
through the village passing the Jubilee Inn then take your first left.
Pelynt
to Watergate
Passing by the houses and continuing along the road, you will eventually come
to a junction. Go right here, then immediately left along the public footpath
which is signposted, and over the stile. With the hedge on your right hand
side continue to the foot of the field, cross another style and continue down
the track to cross a stile on your left. The crossing over the stream has
become a little precarious so go straight ahead here and continue through
the woods. At the clearing by the bridge, you can either go straight on or
go over the bridge, both paths will eventually lead to the main road. If you
do not emerge from the woodland walk at a road junction, bear left at the
main road, then right at the road junction signposted Watergate. If you do
emerge opposite the road junction go straight ahead to Watergate.
Watergate
to Looe
At Watergate turn left to find an information board. The board illustrates
a choice of routes back to Looe – you decide. Cross the road bridge
and go left for Looe railway station.
